Hadrill and Horstmann {?} Hospital Light
£ 1,095.00 GBP
Massive surgical light believed to be made by Hadrill and Horstmann {it has no markings or branding!} because of its high-quality construction and counterbalance mechanism that the company is so famous for; this early mid-century surgical light came out of The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, the shade still has its original sticker, it was then bought by a veterinarian from the hospital in the '70s and used in that setting up until the 1990s. Try not to think too much about the human and animal surgeries that it must have seen! It stands over 2 metres tall and can be positioned in many different ways, as shown in the pictures. It used to have a pump mechanism in the base that allowed much more height adjustment, but that mechanism is no longer present, it sits on a lovely 4-wheeled base with original castors with yellow paintwork. As much as I considered polishing, I liked the contrast between the original white paint and the metal arms and reflector. There is a bend in one of the arms, but it does not affect the mechanism. It has been rewired with grey 3 core flex, stamp switch, new plug, and is PAT tested.
