SOLD - Hala 'Foreign' Diathermy Lamp
£ 285.00 GBP
This striking early 20th-century piece by Hala is a Diathermy medical light. Made in Germany for the export market, it is stamped "Foreign" on the base and this is a very rare find. Diathermy refers to the application of electrically induced heat or the application of high-frequency electromagnetic currents for physical therapy or surgical procedures. With its heavy metal base and clamp function the lamp could have been attached to a patient's bed for recovery after surgery. The lamp features original adjustable handles, a column that can be adjusted 180 degrees on the base, and a telescopic stand that can be positioned with an ebonised wood and bakelite bulb holder. This lamp features a chromed high-shine reflector and a Hala Diathermy bulb head mounted on a gold cage. Rewired with gold 3-core flex, an in-line switch and a new plug, the lamp comes with a PAT test.
