Stupendous 'Stanley Cox LTD' therapy lamp
£ 895.00 GBP
A rare and magnificent lamp by Stanley Cox Ltd, Gerrard Street W1, London, a medical therapy lamp from the early part of the 20th Century - the company was a manufacturer of Quack lamps and medical devices that fleeced the wealthy whilst healing them. The unit had some huge and heavy metal transistors in the base, which made lifting and moving it impossible. I don't know if it was an infrared lamp, heat lamp, or ultra short wave therapy unit. It needed a lot of cleaning and polishing to bring out the amazing patina and colours in the metal. The shade, base, and castors are all beautifully original. In addition to the original bakelite plug and switch, we rewired the bulb holder with a black 3-core flex and replaced the bulb holder, which is unseen. We also installed modern coloured LED strip lighting in the base that beautifully illuminates the punched steel meshing, controlled by a separate remote control, so you can just have one light or both. The piece stands approx 125 cm high and is a real statement piece. I haven't seen another one like it. new plug and PAT test.
